Members

Brandon Barker

Brandon Barker brings a unique blend of computational expertise and health-focused biological research to his work. With a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from Cornell University and experience shipping production systems in the tech industry, he operates comfortably across research and industry contexts.

During his 12 years at Cornell University, including graduate research and professional roles, Brandon led development on systems ranging from a containerized code execution service (Scala, Scala.js, ZIO) to real-time sensor data aggregation (Haskell, Cassandra), and contributed to arXiv's Python modernization effort. His doctoral research produced a flux estimation algorithm with 100X+ speedup over prior methods.

More recently, he has developed high-throughput web services handling sub-20ms P99 latencies using Scala, ZIO, and Kafka. His commitment to functional programming and type safety stems from practical experience building systems where correctness matters.

Consulting

NuSentry specializes in functional programming, high-performance systems, and data-intensive applications. We're particularly well-suited for projects requiring the intersection of scientific rigor and production-grade software: optimization algorithms, streaming architectures, data pipelines, and systems where type safety and correctness are paramount.

Languages: Scala, Rust, Haskell, Python, Unison, and others as needed.

Beyond software development, NuSentry also consults on code review, architecture evaluation, data analysis, research, and the development of educational materials and training.

Software

Unison Projects

NuSentry has contributed and maintains a number of Unison software libraries on Unison Share.
